The Bess Press
Bess Press Publishes Revealing New Book About Honolulu's Major Crimes In Honolulu Homicide: Murder and Mayhem in Paradise, husband-and-wife authors Gary A. Dias ( Honolulu Cop, Bess Press 2002) and Robbie Dingeman provide inside info rmation about some of O‘ahu's most disturbing crimes, including the murders of State Representative Roland Kotani, police officer Troy Barboza, Diane Suzuki, Lisa Au, and seven employees of the Xerox Corporation. Dias, a retired Honolulu Police Department major who served as lieutenant of the homicide detail in the late 1980s, and Dingeman , a Honolulu Advertiser reporter, describe details of the crimes and the investigative procedures that solved—or failed to solve—them. In doing so, they reveal the conflict that exists between police, who want to withhold info rmation that might compromise the investigation, and reporters, who believe in the public's “right to know.” The book's 20 chapters cover a variety of crimes: domestic violence, workplace violence, sex crimes, crimes against children, crimes against—and by—police officers, and unsolved and other puzzling cases. In each case, Dias and Dingeman honor the victims and their families as they describe the responsibilities of the police, the courts, and the media in investigating and reporting these crimes.
