Plants of Old Hawaii grew out of Lois Lucas's many years of teaching Hawaiian culture, history and botany, and the planning and cultivation of the Hawaiian Garden at Punahou, as well as her acquaintance with Beatrice Krauss of the Lyon Arboretum.
