Bess Press is a family owned independent book publishing company based in Honolulu, Hawai'i. For over 30 years Bess Press has been producing both educational and popular general interest titles about Hawai'i and the Pacific. Beginning with the publication of two Hawaiian history textbooks, the Press has grown to become a leading curriculum publisher in Hawaiian and Pacific Island studies.
With worldwide distribution of our works, educators and readers at all levels are able to access over 200 Bess Press titles that reflect a unique perspective and sensitivity regarding the culture, tradition, and history of Hawai'i and the Pacific. Bess Press' educational titles focus on Hawaiian and Pacific languages, histories, literatures, and cultures. These texts, maps and reference works are widely used in schools and libraries throughout the mainland United States, Hawai'i, and the Pacific.
Bess Press' general interest titles cover such categories as children's literature, humor, history, cooking, culture, biography, language, sports, reference, and guidebooks and are often used as supplemental educational tools.
All of our books are predominately written, illustrated, and designed by authors, illustrators, and photographers from Hawai'i and other areas within the Pacific region who have traveled, lived in, and care deeply about the content we provide. Our mission at Bess Press is to provide readers with informative, educational, and entertaining publications.
